Custom Charcuterie Board Care

While all cutting boards can be used as charcuterie boards, not all charcuterie boards can (or should) be used as a cutting board.  While charcuterie boards are generally designed and built to make beautiful displays of cheeses, meats, vegetables, and well … meats.  Many are not built for cutting on.  Charcuterie boards featuring epoxy resin should never be cut on.  Puddle Pirate Projects always uses FDA approved food safe epoxy resins.  However, by cutting on epoxy you may take small chunks or slices of the epoxy as you cut.  While epoxy resin may be safe to eat off of, you shouldn’t ingest the substance.

Like cutting boards, hand wash and dry your charcuterie boards. Do not place a charcuterie board in the dishwasher or microwave.  If your charcuterie board features an epoxy resin, you should also keep the board out of direct sunlight.  All of these faux pas could allow the board to warp and/or crack.

Use food safe mineral oil, cutting board oil, or cutting board wax to treat your charcuterie board.  Never allow your charcuterie board to completely dry out.  Cutting board oil or cutting board wax can be purchased from many hardware stores or on my website at https://www.puddlepirateprojects.com/store/p/bosuns-board-balm-cutting-board-wax.  Never use cooking oil to treat your charcuterie board as cooking oil will become rancid and grow bacteria.  As mentioned in my first blog post, “Custom Cutting Board Care” (https://www.puddlepirateprojects.com/blog/custom-cutting-board-care), bacteria is bad mm-kay.

While these tips are not all inclusive, I hope they’re helpful and allow you to enjoy your custom charcuterie board for years to come.
