Puddle Pirate Projects Review: BRUNT Workwear Perkins Boots

The Official Puddle Pirate Projects Review: BRUNT Workwear Perkins Boots

Great news, everybody. I am very excited to announce that as of a couple weeks ago… I am officially an “influencer”. Well, not really, but BRUNT Workwear was kind enough to send me a pair of their Perkins boots for free in exchange for my honest review. If you know me, you know I don’t hold back when it comes to honesty, so here it goes!

About the Boots: The Perkins by BRUNT Workwear

The Perkins are heavy duty work boots, and the brand has gone to considerable effort to make sure that they can withstand just about anything.

Instead of your run-of-the-mill steel toe, these boots have what BRUNT calls a “composite nano safety toe” which is supposed to be lighter and more protective than steel — always a plus when you’re working with sharp or heavy tools. They also have a slip-resistant rubber sole, triple-layer waterproofed, full-grain leather outers, and even have a removable insert under the insole for those with wider feet or want their Perkins boots to feel a bit roomier.

BRUNT Workwear pulled out all the stops to create these Perkins boots — there is a laundry list of safety and comfort features on their website.

Now for my honest review…

I’ve only worn the boots for a couple weeks, so I can’t speak to how they wear over a longer period, but my first impression was that the Perkins are a solid work boot. I definitely feel protected while I’m wearing them, and I doubt that any of my tools could even put a dent in these things unless I tried really hard. BRUNT Workwear’s tagline on their website is “Great Boots, No B.S.” — and they’re right on the nose with that one. When I say these boots are heavy-duty, I mean it.

I think The Perkins boots would be perfect for a job site. If you work in construction, you want your boots to do their job and protect your feet from all the dangers you encounter, and I believe that these will do exactly that.

However, they might be a little bit too heavy-duty for me. Sure, I want my feet to be safe and cozy, but the hazards I deal with in my woodshop are not quite as dangerous as the ones those working on a job site experience every day. While the Perkins boots might be overkill for my small woodshop.

I did notice that I need to wear a nice, thick pair of boot socks with the Perkins boots. Without them, the topmost speed laces dig into my ankles, which is uncomfortable but could easily be solved with the right socks.

Finally, I can’t wear my ankle holster with them! I know, I know, work boots have to cover your ankles for maximum safety, so that’s not BRUNT Workwear’s fault. I’ll adjust.

With regard to how waterproof they are, I recently wore The Perkins while paintballing in the Pacific Northwest with my teenager and her teenage friends. Through mud, muck, and puddles my feet stayed completely dry. And yes, I showed the teens what angry old veterans can do on a paintball field.

Lastly, The Perkins is named after U.S. Coast Guard Machinery Technician 3rd Class Jeremy Perkins who now works at BRUNT. I love representing a fellow Puddle Pirate.

I’m not really sure how many of you will actually be influenced, but I would like to thank BRUNT Workwear for sending me these boots. Even if I might not need such intense safety features, one of you might.
